Pity The Fool

Description

What is a “fool”?  Is it a person who lacks any judgement or sense?  Or a person with all kinds of judgment and sense but has managed to outsmart you out of yours?  Have you ever been “played the fool” or has the “fool” played you?  Which “fool” were you this April Fools’ Day?  Did you fool your children into drinking green milk that you added green food coloring to?  Or were you fooled into rolling a quarter off your nose desperately trying to land it in the circle only to end up feeling foolish when you saw the black pencil marks it left behind?  Were you the “fool” or the “fool”?

Happy April Fools’ Day or All Fool’s Day!  Ever wonder how April Fools’ Day got started?  A popular theory about the origin of April Fools’ is this; in 1564 France changed its calendar, moving the start of the year from the end of March to the beginning of January.  Many people rebelled against the new calendar and continued to celebrate the New Year on April 1st.  These people became victims of pranks and jokes.  Pranksters would stick paper fish (the year of the fish on the calendar) on the backs of these rebels and were called Poisson d’ Avril, or April Fish which remains the French term April Fools.

On this day in 1998, Burger King published an advertisement that the Left-handed Whopper, that was designed to leak out the right side, was free for those people that were left handed but the Right-handed Whopper was still available. Southpaws eagerly lined up for their Left-handed Whopper but had to wait in line with many right handed people asking for their Right-handed Whopper.

Here are some fun and harmless pranks you might consider next year on your friends, kids, or whomever:
  1. To get a laugh out of your little ones, put gummy worms stuffed in an apple or on top of cut up apples to get a few squirms.
  2. Place a balloon over a tail pipe of a car and hear it pop when it is started.
  3. Saran Wrap over the toilet seat (although as a wife that does 99% of the cleaning I would never try it but it sure sounds funny)

Have a great April Fools’ Day!
