No need to share with the kiddies!  This one is just for us adults.
For all you superstitious folk or lovers of spooks here is a special blog post just for you in honor of today being Friday the 13th!!!

Friday the 13th is more than just a movie about a hockey mask wearing killer named Jason that has crept into our dreams turning them into nightmares.  It marks a day that many people take very seriously that suffer from phobias (friggatriskaidekaphobia – fear of Friday the 13th) that won’t allow them to leave the house or even get out of bed!  This particular day has been recognized as an unlucky day, and a day of strange happenings for centuries. It is the amalgamation of two superstitions: thirteen is an unlucky number and Friday is an unlucky day to begin new projects or travel.  Friday is also considered unlucky because Jesus was crucified on a Friday. The stock market (Black Friday) crashed on a Friday, and many others disasters since the 1800’s have occurred on a Friday.  The number thirteen was seen as being irregular and incomplete considering there are twelve months of the year, twelve hours on the clock, twelve gods of Olympus, and twelve apostles of Jesus. Some believed the superstition derived from The Last Supper, that having thirteen members at the supper table marked death for one of the diners.

I thought to keep you in the spooky mood I would provide a few of my favorite Urban Legends:

BLOODY MARY:

Do you remember standing in the bathroom at school with a bunch of your friends, scaring the wits out of one another while trying to get up the courage to repeat Bloody Mary’s name three times?  I do.  That was me.  I have no idea what I was hoping to see nor gave it any kind of rational thought.  Today students in my school are frightening each other STILL with this Urban Legend!

Legend goes that a woman accused of murdering her children was murdered herself while primping herself in the mirror.  There are several ways to make Bloody Mary appear; light a candle in the dark and say her name three times in front of a mirror, chanting her name at while spinning around, or chanting her name thirteen times with a lit candle.  You must beware of summoning Bloody Mary because if she doesn’t kill you, she will haunt you for the rest of your life!

*If being murdered by Bloody Mary isn’t on the top of your list for this evening, perhaps a Bloody Mary cocktail is in order;
Ingredients:
Vodka
Tomato Juice
Worchester sauce and other spices of your choice!

FRIDAY THE 13TH WEDDED GLIMPSE:

It is said if you walk backwards up a flight of stairs while holding a candle and looking in a mirror you will see your future husband but if you see the Grim Reaper you are marked for death before you are wedded! Yikes!

If you have no plans tonight and feel like celebrating Friday the 13th , curl up with your loved one and watch a scary film but don’t do it alone!!!!! (Insert Dracula laugh)
